Top Things to do in Oakville for the Holidays

Enjoy a Hometown Holiday in Downtown Oakville

Downtown Oakville is the perfect place to bring the family to capture that special spirit of Christmas. In addition to the excellent shopping available in the many great stores lining the downtown core, a number of fun events are also taking place including late night- and outdoor shopping experiences.

The highlight of the downtown’s festive light display along Lakeshore Road and Navy Street is a spectacular 30 ft tall ribbon tree that’s been set up in Towne Square. Also fun is an ‘Augmented Scavenger Hunt’. Suitable for all ages, this digital experience even features prizes (check out the Downtown Oakville BIA website for further details).

Do Some Christmas Shopping in Kerr Village

You’ll have no problem crossing items off your ‘family and friends’ Christmas list in Kerr Village. Located in the heart of Oakville, this bustling, trendy spot offers plenty of great shopping opportunities in its eclectic collection of boutique shops and retailers.

Some of the best restaurants in Oakville are located here, too, many of them offering special seasonal dishes and dining experiences.

Take a Winter Stroll Around Bronte Village

Oakville’s Bronte neighbourhood is a fun place for a stroll at any time of year. But with a little snow (or just crisp winter evening air!) this quaint, village-like area seems even more magical than usual.

After a walking the pathways through Bronte’s lakefront pathways, warm up in one of the many excellent eateries located here. And be sure to add time for a little shopping, too, at the many Bronte Village shops.

Special events for the 2022 holiday season include a unique display of 100 Muskoka chairs scattered around the neighbourhood, each with a hand painted Oakville theme adorning theme. And if visiting with kids, add to the fun by having them find a rendition of Oakville’s famous lighthouse on each chair.

Take in a Show at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts

Nothing says ‘Christmas’ quite like a live show. And to celebrate the season, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts is hosting a number of family-friendly events you’ll want to check out.

Our favourites include:

  • Oakville Symphony’s 19th Annual Christmas Concert is great for a family sing-along, featuring beloved festive songs and Christmas carols in what has become a well-stablished Oakville tradition
  • A reading of A Christmas Carol with legendary Canadian actor RH Thomson
  • Chris Funk’s The Wonderist Redefining Wonder is a fun-for-all-ages New Year’s Eve magic show that features a multimedia performance and music concert (December 31, 2022)

Do a Christmas Tour with Oakville Museum

Oakville Museum is getting into the spirit of things with a special guided tour of Erchless Estate. This elegant historic home has been decorated to the nines for Christmas and features exhibits and displays revolving around the season.

Highlights include seeing collections of historic toys and Christmas ornaments.

The museum is also putting on a fun ‘craft and tour’ event between Christmas and New Year. This hour-long event will have parents spend time making a craft with their young ‘uns before touring the home.

See the Seasonal Light Displays

There are plenty of great places to catch seasonal light displays in and around Oakville. Our favourite spots include Kerr Village with its colourful illuminated Christmas Tree; Bronte Village; and the Downtown Oakville area with its light display and ribbon tree.
